Event: Scientific research and innovation for water security

In 2025, UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) will celebrate its 50th anniversary, marking 50 years of service to UNESCO Member States and the water community since the establishment of the Programme and 60 years of hydrological and water sciences following the International Hydrological Decade (1965-1974). The development of IHP has evolved through different phases to a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary programme dedicated to hydrological sciences.  

The current ninth phase of IHP (2022-2029) addresses key activities within the overall theme of Science for a Water Secure World in a Changing Environment andEnvironment1 and aiming to supports Member States to achieve the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. As a contribution to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of IHP and as part of the implementation of IHP-IX, an event targeting priority area 1 “Scientific research and innovation” will be held on June 10th at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris.  

Objectives 

  • Highlight the key contributions of on priority area “Science research and innovation” of phase 22-25 

  • Review of the planning process of priority area 1 “scientific research and innovation”: gap analysis and further planning
